GALKAYO, Puntland - Gunman has shot dead the security chief of Galkayo airport, Abdisalam Sanyare, and his bodyguard in a shooting took place in the city on Monday afternoon, Garowe Online reports.

Security officials have confirmed the killing of Sanyare by the armed man, whom they said is a brother of a culprit who killed two foreign staff members with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in April 2014.

Two foreign United Nations workers – a Briton Simon Davis and a Frenchman Clement Gorrissen – have been shot dead on arrival at the same airport in Galkayo, where the security official was killed Monday.

The killer has been immediately detained, along with another suspect in connection with the murder during an operation by Puntland security forces at the Airport, witnesses said.

The exact motive for the shooting of the security officer still remains unclear, but sources told GO that the gunman and late Sanyare have disagreed over a financial issue.
