Allied forces liberate new areas in southern Somalia

JOWHAR, Somalia-Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers have seized Middle Shabelle region village of El Baraf without resistance on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

The allied forces are in control of El Baraf, 40km off Middle Shabelle regional district of Mahaday according to witnesses.

Al Shabaab militants are reported to have fled in advance of onslaught.

Squeezing forces made stopover in Aadley and El Folder before moving into El Baraf according to Jowhar news site.

Last week, allied forces recaptured Biyo Adde which lies 40km away from Jowhar.

Somali government forces alongside African Union peacekeepers have pressed ahead with anti-militant offensives in central and southern Somalia.
