MOGADISHU, Somalia - Scores of the al-Shabaab militants have been killed on various frontlines for the last 48 hours, with the government of Somalia investing more in the elimination of the group which is fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal administration.

The operations carried out in Middle and Lower Shabelle resulted in the death of over 70 militants, with security forces also managing to seize weapons and equipment used by the militants on the frontlines.

At the Cabdulle-Barbaar area, near Ciid-Ciid in the Mahadaay district, the government forces coordinated attacks that led to the elimination of seven fighters. During the battle, six rifles, a Fekon motorcycle, and other military supplies were recovered.

Elsewhere, the forces simultaneously carried operations in Sabiid and Caanoole, in Lower Shabelle, resulting in the deaths of over 30 militants. The towns are key targets of the al-Shabaab militants who are dominant in the region.

Additionally, airstrikes near Raage Ceelle in Middle Shabelle eliminated more than 40 militants, with one of their military vehicles destroyed. The operation comes after a month of havoc when the militants took advantage of Ramadhan.

The Ministry of Defence spokesperson Sheikh Abuukar Mohamed confirmed that the operations are a part of a broader strategy to weaken militant networks and enhance national security.

“These operations are crucial in dismantling terrorist strongholds and preventing further destabilization in Somalia,” he said.

The government of Somalia has been working closely with international partners in fighting the group with the US Africa Command and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) contributing significantly to the operations.
