Somalia: 15,000 students sit for unified Exams in Puntland

GAROWE, Puntland - More than 15,000 students from entire schools in Puntland sat for a government-controlled unified final examination for secondary and primary schools, which kicked on Saturday in Garowe city, Garowe Online reports.

The annual final exams set by the state's ministry of education was launched at Gambool School in Garowe city early in the morning, which will also be conducted in 100 centers across the 9 regions of Puntland.

The Minister of Education, Abshir Aw Yusuf Isse said they had been working for had been working for a period of time to hold standardized high school exit exams throughout Puntland.

The state president, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali "Gaas" who paid a visit to several examination centres in Garowe has wished students success in their exams, noting that education is the only way to save the country.

"I'm glad to come to you and launch your final exams. It's a historic day that unified examinations for the 8th and 4th-grade students are taking place across Puntland, keep on your hard work, " said President Ali.

This is the 15th consecutive year that Puntland's Ministry of Education holding a unified final exam and this year's students are said to be fewer than the numbers in the past two years.

Additionally, the schools' examinations were unified in 2012.

This came as 27,0000 students in the other Federal States in Southern Somalia are scheduled to sit for unified national exams on 19th May, according to the Ministry of Education for the country's Federal Government in Mogadishu.
