BOSSASO, Somalia, May 27, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s Puntland Government Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has announced administrative shakeup that has been anticipated for a week on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

In a bid to allay criticisms growing rife over lapse in security, Puntland President fired Bari Governor Abdisamad Mohamed Galan and Bossaso mayor Hassan Abdalle Hassan, respectively replacing them with Yusuf Mohamed Waeys Dhedo and Mohamed Saed Shabel (Bocol).

Two deputy governors-Ahmed Ali Abdullahi and Ahmed Haji Mohamed- have been picked along with Dhedo while Qasim Abdirahman Mohamed (Aluke) took on deputy mayoral post.

In the presidential decree, Ali dissolved Bossaso municipal council, and ordered for the selection of new councilors in 45 days.

The nomination of other officials whose names were disclosed to Garowe Online in advance has been postponed until Thursday.

The sackings and expected nominees have spurred controversy among titled clan elders in the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso.

It is unclear whether Bari traditional leaders would voice support for the changes in provincial administration’s top ranks.
