GAROWE, Somalia, October 29, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Media Association of Puntland (MAP) has condemned the suspension of VOA Somali Service reporting in Somalia’s Northeastern State of Puntland on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

MAP Chairman, Faisal Khalif Barre called on Information Ministry to present enough evidences in court house.

Puntland Information Ministry ordered draconian ban on VOA services, and banned FM stations from rebroadcasting its radio programmes on Thursday morning.

In an interview with Puntland-based independent station, Radio Garowe, Information Minister Mohamud Hassan So’adde said that the US-funded news organization opted for maligning Puntland dignity by making baseless coverage.

He insisted that they will take issue with VOA Somali Service to court, shunning specified date.

VOA reporting on question-and-answer session in Puntland Parliament and resignation of Speaker Saed Hassan Shire is thought to have prompted the ban.

Puntland Members of Parliament Wednesday voted Parliament Speaker out of office shortly after he announced premature departure at his residence.

The 66-seat-chamber of parliament courted public outcry with controversial pay rise and silence on cash factory, being unilaterally commissioned by key figures in government.
