Somalia: Mudug regional court chief injured in Galkayo city
GALKAYO, Somalia - Unidentified gunman have wounded Abdirahman Kilwe, the chief of Mudug regional court in northern Galkayo on Monday evening, Garowe Online reports.
An official has confirmed to GO that the court chief has sustained a slight injures in the attempted assassination that occurred at a restaurant in northern Galkayo city.
"I was near the restaurant when the shooting took place. The court official was shot and wounded by a pistol-wielding man, who escaped from the scene shortly," said the officail who declined to be named.
The perpetrator has fled the scene before the arrival of the Police authorities. The reason behind the attacking Kilwe is unclear, as no group has claimed responsibility for the attack against the official.
The victim has been taken to a nearby hospital, where he is current being treated. His wounds is not a life-threatening, according to medical officials.
The incident is the latest in series of organised attacks targeting the high-ranking Puntland government officials in Galkayo and the commercial coastal city of Bosaso in the past few months.
The security situation in Galkayo has gradually deteriorated in the past months amid weak government policy to counter terrorism and lack of salary payments to the security forces for over months.
