Somalia: President Farmajo arrives in Puntland on first visit

GAROWE, Puntland – The President of Somalia’s Federal Government, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has arrived in the Puntland capital of Garowe on Sunday for a two-day visit, Garowe Online reports.

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali “Gaas”, Vice President Abdihakim Abdullahi Haji Omar Amey, Cabinet Minister, MPs, traditional elders and jubilant residents clad in state and Somali national flags received Farmajo at Garowe International Airport where he inspected a guard of honour by Puntland Defence Force [PDF] Unit.

On arrival, a bullet-proof motorcade carrying Farmajo’s entourage crawled into the state capital and spoke to cheering crowds at the city’s square to thank for their cordial and heartfelt mammoth welcome.

The overall security has been beefed up by the regional troops backed by the Somali President’s special guards who deployed on main roads ahead of the President's arrival.

During his visit which marks the first to Puntland since he took power in February 2017, Somali President will attend the opening ceremony of the Garowe International Airport slated for Monday, January 8.

Sources tell GO that the President will hold talks with top Puntland officials over imperative issues pertaining to the Security, development and on ways to boost the collaboration between the Federal State and his Government.
