Somalia: Puntland ex-President condoles death of renowned academic
GAROWE, Somalia-Former Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has condoled the death of renowned academic and intellectual, late Mohamed Abshir Walde, in condolatory message on Sunday morning, Garowe Online reports.
Walde died from liver complications at the age of 70 in Kenyan capital, Nairobi according to relatives.
Farole described him a man who blazed a trail for Puntland and Somalia, whose legacy will forever be remembered.
Meanwhile, former Education Minister Abdi Farah Saed (Juha) sent similar condolences to bereaved families and Puntland people over the passing of legendary politician.
Late Walde graduated from School of Journalism at Columbia University in 1968 and later took on a work with BBC Work Service and its Somali Service, becoming head for the latter.
He was known for his founding role in a community-wide consultation that led to Puntland inception in 1998.
He is survived by a wife and five children.
