GAROWE, Somalia - Puntland police on Thursday seized a stolen bus and arrested several militiamen following a gunfight at a checkpoint in Garowe. The vehicle, which had been taken from the Office of the Auditor General, was being transported by armed men posing as security forces, formerly known as the Puntland Security Force (PSF).

The bus, authorities said, was intended for illegal sale in South Galkayo and was intercepted by police at an eastern Garowe checkpoint. When police attempted to stop the convoy, the armed group opened fire, resulting in casualties.

Puntland police swiftly responded, confiscating the stolen vehicles and arresting the suspects involved. An official investigation into the incident has been launched, with authorities pledging to prosecute all individuals connected to the crime.

"The law will apply equally to everyone, and anyone attempting to disrupt public security or misuse government authority will be held accountable," the Puntland police said in a statement.

The Puntland government has reiterated its commitment to combating armed groups destabilizing the region and vowed to continue efforts to uphold law and order. Further details will be released once the investigation concludes.
