Somalia: Puntland President to visit UAE again

GAROWE, Puntland- President of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland, Abdiwali Mohamed Ali Gaas, is expected to travel to UAE again, after officially opening the 38th session of Puntland Parliament, which was postponed since last week, Garowe Online reports.

Close sources reported that President Ali is set to join regional leaders of Jubaland, Southwest and Galmudug for meetings in UAE.

The sudden visit comes after Puntland President was grilled by state MPs during the Parliament session, over his recurrent international trips that caused huge financial burden on the state budget amidst crippled economy in the region.         

in the past years, Puntland state has witnessed frequent protests by state civil servants and security forces in several occasions over unpaid salaries and government entitlements for more than 7 months.
