Somalia: ​Puntland students complain abuses by Somali ambassador to Islamabad

 GAROWE, Puntland-  Students hailing from Puntland studying in Pakistan are complaining about mistreatment by the Somali Ambassador to Islamabad Khadija Mohamed Al makhzoumi, Garowe Online reports. 

Some of the students, who spoke to Radio Garowe over the phone, said they are being mistreated and subjected to horrifying abuses, including unlawful arrests, intimidation and unkind discrimination. 

Abdikarim Hussein Mohamed, one of the students said during an interview with RG that they are facing difficult situation and major challenges in Pakistan, that need to be addressed very soon.

 Mohamed who is in Islamabad, has pointed out the Somali students in general have a problem with an increase of Visa fees and delays, and those hailing from Puntland endure a separate inequity in special. 

He added that they went to the embassy several times to meet ambassador Al makhzoumi over their complaints, but the result became the arrest of their representative for raising the issue. 

They lodged a complaint to the government of Pakistan,  however, it decline to intervene in the situation, and noticed the students to ask the Federal government of Somalia to solve their problems. 

Continuing, Mohamed stated the students have sent a compliant letter to the President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, requesting them to resolve the issue.

Almakhzoumi, has been Somali ambassador to Iraqi, before being transferred to Pakistan last year. 

The Somali community in Pakistan mainly consists of students studying in Universities, who are supported by their parents through remittances from Somalia and abroad.
