Somalia-based Al-shabaab militants targeted Turkish aid workers yet again.

Mogadishu (GO) - Somalia-based Al-shabaab militants targeted Turkish aid workers yet again, with the group heightening raids during the Holy Month of Ramadan despite increased security surveillance across the country, powered by the Somali National Army.

For three weeks, the Al-shabaab have been targeting innocent civilians, senior government officials and the security teams both in central and southern regions. Dozens of people have been killed in the process according to authorities.

According to reports, the militants fired again on Thursday evening in what seems to have targeted Turkish aid workers in the country. Turkey is a key security and development ally of the Horn of Africa nation due to close collaboration.

Further reports indicate the explosions targeted Turkish aid workers in the vicinity of Tabbeellaha, outside Mogadishu while they were delivering food assistance to the displaced communities. Thousands of people have been displaced to severe drought and Al-shabaab threat.

A source confirmed to the Voicd of America that the explosion resulted fatalities. Al-Shabaab claimed two Turkish nationals were killed, but the claims are yet to be verified independently by the government.

Police in Mogadishu have not yet confirmed the number of casualties from the attack. Turkey has massively invested in security and development in Somalia. For the last ten years, Turkey has been assisting Somalia whose security challenges are dwindling..

The militants are under pressure from all frontlines with the Somali National Army, the US Africa Command and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) have been assisting security teams in the Horn of Africa nation.
