Hawiye clan elders Chief slams impeachment motion against Somalia President

MOGADISHU, Somalia, August 25, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Hawiye clan elders Chief Mohamed Hassan Had has slammed no confidence motion in Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

Elder Had pointed accusing fingers at external agents and federal member states, his first remarks since over 90 MPs in Somalia’s federal parliament lodged impeachment motion.

Had, Mogadishu-based outspoken figure claimed that foreign elements orchestrated the motion to harm the consolidation of Somalia’s peace process and governance.

“We have learned that the motion is being driven by four points, with first being to malign our governance and consolidation of peace process, foreign hands, clan interests and involvement of [motion] by federal member states,” Had told reporters in Mogadishu.

He threatened that people will strip backers of the bold challenge of responsibilities.

Somali Members of parliament lodged the impeachment motion with Speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari on August 12.

Constitutional violations and corruption are among allegations being beset with President Mohamud.

Lawmakers in the often fickle 275-seat-chamber voted two Prime Ministers-Abdi Farah Shirdon and Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed-out of office after row with Mohamud in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

International community representatives expressed concern over the potential challenges in the pipeline for Somalia if the move is pushed ahead.
