MOGADISHU, Somalia-Somalia’s Federal Government (SFG) has protested delays faced with Members of Parliament, a day after alleged detention of Prime Minister at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) went viral, Garowe Online reports.

According to a statement from the office of Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, the stranding only affected MPs accompanying him on his trip to the Turkish city of Istanbul for High Level Partnership Forum.

Somalia calls the incident ‘unwarranted’, demanding full justification and explanation from Kenyan authorities as soon as possible.

Moreover, Somali Prime Minister Office denied that Sharmarke was briefly detained, insisting he received warm reception at the airport’s VIP pavilion.

UN-backed national government is pondering on how it could respond in light of embarrassing diplomatic spat with neighboring Kenya.
