Kenya says its army kills 10 militants in Somalia

NAIROBI, Kenya - Soldiers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Monday killed 10 Al-Shabaab militants and recovered seven AK47 rifles, ammunition during a dawn operation in Lamu County.

Three KDF officers are also said to have sustained injuries from the early morning raid and are currently receiving medical care as the army pursues other terrorists who fled with injuries in Taksile area, North of Pandanguo.

“Locals are requested to share information with the security officials in the area, as the fleeing and wounded terrorists may seek assistance from them,” reads the statement signed by KDF Colonel, Public Affairs, Paul Njuguna.

“The locals are urged to participate in weeding out lurking terror elements in their midst, in order to assist in the progressive pacification of Lamu County.”

Kenya has witnessed deadly attacks by Al Shabaab since it sent combat forces to the neighboring country in mid-2011 after series of kidnappings and raids in its soil.

The Kenyan forces are now serving under African Union Mission in Somalia, known as [AMISOM] force that is protecting the weak Somali Federal government in Mogadishu from Al Shabaab.
