Somalia: Clan militias clash in Merca

MERCA, Somalia, August 8, 2015 (Garowe Online)-At least three people have been reported killed in armed confrontation between two clan militias in Lower Shabelle regional capital of Merca of Southern Somalia on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Local reports say, the fighting raged in extreme neighborhood following the mysterious murder of a person.

Volleys of gunfire disrupted businesses and commuters movement, with the situation remaining tense.

Somali government forces and African Union peacekeepers are co-located in the coastal town known for white buildings and exotic beach.

Violence has surged in the southern town which once was a springboard for beleaguered Al Shabaab group over the last few weeks.
