Somalia: Donors Point Finger at Outgoing Puntland President's State-Building Engagement

NAIROBI, Kenya - On Monday, international donors met with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and members of his cabinet in Nairobi, Kenya.
The US Embassy in Mogadishu tweeted that the donors underlined the importance of Puntland's constructive engagement in Somalia's state-building progress, including participation at the National Consultative Council.
Sources revealed that Deni failed to persuade the donors about the reason for his boycott of the last NCC in Baidoa which was concluded on Friday, March 17.
He argued that Puntland would not attend future FGS-FMS forums as long as he is in power and demanded Puntland's share of donor projects intended for Somalia's state-building without going through the Federal Government in Mogadishu.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected in May 2022 and has been in office for less than a year. President Deni lost to Mohamud and other candidates in the election.
The meeting with international donors highlights the significance of addressing Somalia's issues constructively and collaboratively to achieve stability, security, and economic prosperity.
