Somalia: ex-Media leader says survives attempt on his life

MOGADISHU, Somalia, December 30, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Former Secretary-General of National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) Omar Faruk Osman has survived an attempt on his life in Mogadishu’s Hodon district, he told VOA Somali Service on Tuesday.

Osman claimed that three assailants in a mini-van opened fire on his car, wounding one his bodyguards enroute to his residence in Hodon district.

Attackers are said to have used rifles in the botched incident.

Former NUSOJ head said, he might have been attacked because of his profession and ruled out any involvement by rivals.

Mogadishu security services are investigating the assassination attempt in largely volatile Mogadishu.

Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has said in report that Somalia ranked ninth in places hostile to media works with the third killing of female Journalist India Haji Mohamed this year.
