Somalia: Ex-Puntland President grieves death of legendary writer

'‘Abdirahman Sheikh Mohamed Mohamud extends his condolence to the bereaved families and Somali people on the passing of late Hussein Sheikh Ahmed Kadare’

GAROWE, Somalia Feb 3, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Former Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has condoled with Somali people on the death of legendary writer and poet Hussein Sheikh Ahmed (Kadare), Garowe Online reports.

Farole said in statement that late Kadare had since been patriotic politician, peace-seeker, prolific scholar and poet.

“Hussein played a pivotal role in the establishment of Somali language orthography,” said former Puntland President.

Recalling his meetings with Kadare who created ‘Somali script’ in 1953 ‘, Farole noted that he had been familiar with Kadare for many years and remembers his significant contribution to peace.

“May Allah rest his soul in peace, Hussein and I were part of Djibouti Peace Conference technical committee in July 1991,” he went on. “In August 1991, as part of efforts aimed at the formation of effective central government, he welcomed me and other delegates from north eastern Somalia to Mogadishu”.

Farole wished comfort and patience to the bereaved families of Late Kadare who on Sunday passed away in Mogadishu.

Hussein Shiekh Ahmed Kadare also worked for the state-run station, Radio Mogadishu as producer and sport journalist in 1960s.
