ADADO, Somalia, August 22, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Galmudug soldiers manning a police compound in Adado town of central Somalia have skirmished with Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamea militias according to residents and officials, Garowe Online reports.

The armed confrontation came after moderate Islamists attacked the security cell where Galmudug vice presidential claimant, Abdullahi Da’ad is being held.

The botched raid follows war of words between Galmudug, a Sufism-leaning armed wing and Galmudug interim administration.

The push to free Da’ad became abortive as local sources report that undisclosed number of body guards sustained bullet wounds in the skirmish.

On July 4, Galmudug parliament elected Abdikarin Hussein Gulled, close ally of Somalia president and former national security minister as a president in an election boycotted by Ahlu Sunna.

Having rested control of Galgadud regional capital of Dhusamareb, Ahlu Sunna continues to refuse recognition for the interim administration in central Somalia.
