Somalia: Hirshabelle state President creates three new districts

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia- The President of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of HirShabelle, Ali Abdullahi Osoble has officially announced the creation of new districts in Hiran region, Garowe Online reports.

The new districts are El Ali, Halgan and Far-Libah in Hiran region of central Somalia, according to a Presidential degree released on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, that obtained by GO.

The statement added that the creation of the districts came following a recommendation from the Minister of Interior for Hirshabelle state after fulfilling the conditions for the establishment of a new district.

The Interior Ministry said the plan came following an assessment on the security, social, and economic development in these areas, ahead of the final decision of the state President.

Meanwhile, Hirshabelle President has called on the local Police forces, International aid agencies and the administration of Hiran region to swiftly move to the newly created districts, and provide needed services for locals.

Osoble said that the creation of the new districts is in government’s continued effort and programe of taking services closer to the people in Hirshabelle, the latest Federal member state formed by the end of 2016.

Since its establishment, Hirshabelle faced numerous challenges, including the al-Shabaab extremist group, recurrent Inter-clan clashes, and drought.
