Somalia: Jubaland welcomes Bardera liberation, vows steadiness

KISMAYO, Somalia, July 23, 2015 (Garowe Online)-After strategic Bardera town in southwestern Somalia became liberated from Al Shabaab militants, Jubaland Vice President, Gen. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismael (Fartag) has vowed firmness in the fight against terrorism, Garowe Online reports.
In an interview with the media, Gen. Fartag disclosed that the push was coordinated well in advance.
“The capture of Bardera has special importance for us. The enemy that had been in control of it for seven years was ousted and we are heading with clean-up operations,” said Jubaland Vice President.
He called on residents to welcome allied forces, hinting at follow-up offensives against Al Shabaab.
Bardera, 284km off Mogadishu fell to Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers on Friday.
