Somalia leaders mark Eid Al Adha with prayers and greetings

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The top leaders of Somalia have similarly extended best wishes to the Somalis at home and abroad, on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha, one of the five pillars of Islam, Garowe Online reports.

The country's PM, Hassan Ali Khaire, members of his cabinet, lawmakers and key government officials have on Tuesday morning performed Eid Al Adha prayers at Isbaheysiga Mosque near Villa Somalia.

Following the prayers, Prime Minister Khaire exchanged Eid greetings with worshippers.

In a Twitter post, Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo extended best wishes to the public as they celebrate the festival of this special day, and urged them to assist the less fortunate in society at large.

Eid-al-Adha which is the second of the two annual Eid celebrated by Muslims in the worldwide marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The security of the capital city was tightened and extra forces have been deployed on the major roads while the police checked up the vehicles crossed the city in a bid to avert terrorist attacks during the carnival.

The festival of Eid was celebrated across the country, including main cities in Puntland state with joy and gaiety.
