Somalia: MP killed, another wounded in Mogadishu drive-by shooting

MOGADISHU, Somalia, May 23, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Unidentified assailants have killed Federal Member of Parliament Yusuf Mohamed Dirir, wounding fellow MP and former Defence Minister Abdale Boss Ahmed in drive-by shooting on Mogadishu’s Maka Al Mukarama road on Saturday afternoon, Garowe Online reports.

The two MPs and a driver have been wounded in the attack before being pronounced Dirir dead at Darul Shifa hospital.

The attackers in car have managed to speed-off from the heavily militarized road.

Meanwhile, in Mogadishu’s Hodon district two people, with one being identified as government employee were killed in separate gun attack.

No body claimed responsibility for the shootings but Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group is known for planned assassinations, mainly in volatile Mogadishu.

Late on Friday night, militants wrested control of riverine villages in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.

On Saturday, government forces took back Awdhegle district and Mubarak village in fiercest battle in two years.
