Somalia: Nur Idow beats ex-NISA boss to win Parliamentary Seat

JOWHAR, Somalia - Nur Idow Beyle has beaten former Somalia's Intelligence Chief Abdullahi Mohamed Ali "Sanbalolshe" to win the seat of the House of the People allocated to HirShabelle state, Garowe Online reports.

Beyle garnered 27 votes while his opponent Sanblolshe received 24 votes during the second round of the voting for the lower chamber held Sunday in Jowhar, the interim administrative capital of HirShabelle administration.

Six candidates, including former HirShabelle state President Ali Abdullahi Osoble, have competed for the parliamentary seat for Ali Madahweyne, a sub-clan of Hawadle clan from Hiran region in central Somalia.

Fifty-one electoral delegates took part in Today’s balloting exercise who cast their votes among the contenders. The remaining three candidates, among them a woman did not win any vote in the first round of the election.

Sources tell GO that the victorious candidate had a financial support from the Villa Somalia, the country's Presidential Palace that led him to win the seat against the political heavyweights of Osoble and Sanbalolshe.

The seat was left vacant by Sanbalolshe in April 2017 after he was appointed as the head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA]. He was sacked following the deadly Oct 14 truck bombing in the capital.
