The sides held talks over the elections of the remaining seats of Upper and Lower Houses of Federal Parliament for some regional clans, as last month, Somalia has sworn-in more than 270 lawmakers in Mogadishu city.

According to the Federal electoral body, 5 Senators remained to be elected for Somaliland community, whereas 9 new MPs are set to be voted for in the Lower House elections.

The sides also agreed that seats vacated will only be replaced through a ballot casted by an Electoral College comprising of 51 delegates, also seats reserved for women will only be contested by women candidates.

The new Parliament has assumed the legislative authority, whereas recently the new Speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari has noted that the role of Somalia’s National Leadership Forum is no longer valid to oversee the remaining Somali electoral process.

Somalia is preparing to conclude the elections of remaining seats in Federal Parliament and elect Speakers for the Upper House chamber, as the new lawmakers will vote for the new Somali President in a date that was not scheduled by the Parliament.
