MOGADISHU, Somalia, December 16, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The Speaker of Somalia’s Federal Parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari is seeking to extend parliament’s own term till 2017 in exploitation of lingering disputes over model for electoral transition in 2016, Garowe Online has learned.

Jawari looked to National Consultative Forum in Mogadishu, hoping that political deliberations will doom to failure in his favor.

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Southwest State leader Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan have agreed to Jawari’s blueprint, credible sources confirmed to Garowe Online.

Mohamud whose larger clan has lately given cold shoulder to return to 4.5 power sharing quota in 2016 selection and election processes wants to use term extension opportunity as fodder for his wavering grip on power through 2017.

Moreover, some politicians are rallying around Jawari for his controversial push. Southwest State leader still maintains visible clout in parliament, calling shots of at least 60 MPs at his whim.

The mandate of current parliament is due to expire in 2016.

International community representatives have expressed their disdain for any possible term extension, calling for hybrid model in 2016 elections.
