Somalia PM Lauds Jubaland Forces for Thwarting Al-Shabaab Attacks
KISMAYO, Somalia - Somalia's Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has lauded the Jubaland army for playing a special role in the defeat inflicted on the Alshabaab militants, arguing that the team managed to thwart a series of raids organized by the group in parts of the state.
In a series of operations, the Jubaland army with special help from the Somali National Army (SNA), killed over 100 Alshabaab militants in different parts of Jubaland. This was one of the most effective operations to be carried out by the forces.
At Bulo-Haji, one of the battlefields where Al-Shabaab suffered casualties, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre said the Dervish forces had done the country proud by 'defeating the Al-Shabaab' at the time the country is determined to liberate several strategic towns.
He noted the victory by the forces demonstrated the government’s commitment to building the country’s security forces to enable them to protect the country. Jubaland is facing the second phase of operations against Al-Shabaab.
“You worshiped because you killed those whom the prophet commanded us to be killed and destroyed, you made the Muslims happy, you cut the Khawaarij which the Somali people hated,” the PM said.
So far, the second phase of operations against Al-Shabab has seen the country liberate several strategic towns across Somalia, including remote regions where Al-Shabaab has frequently used to launch operations against innocent civilians.
Early this week, Jubaland leader Ahmed Islam Mohamed Madobe awarded medals to several soldiers who participated in the operations. All other junior officers were elevated to the next rank following the historic success against Al-Shabaab.
Somalia anticipates that by December 2024, most areas will have been liberated from Alshabaab as the peacekeeping mission from the African Union leaves the country. The local army is expected to take over security responsibilities.
