BAIDOA, Somalia- The military court of Somalia has executed four al-Shabaab members by firing squad in the southern strategic town of Baidoa on Monday morning, Garowe Online reports.

Military court chairman Liban Ali Yarow said that a firing squad executed Siyad Hassan Farah, Sharmad Awow Mohamed, Hassan Aden Mursal and Abdiladhif Moalim Aden for taking part in bombings that left 80 people dead in Baidoa in February, 2016.

"The men were al-Shabaab members. They were behind deadly explosions that happened here in Baidoa. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to death in February, 2017, and today the sentences have been carried out," said Yarow.

The execution of the men happened at an open square outside Baidoa town in the early hours on Monday morning, with the presence of top military court officials, and Southwest officials.

Similarly on Saturday, Somali military court has carried out an execution against a 28-year-old Somali police officer who was accused of killing a civilian in Afgoye district, in Lower Shabelle region in January, 2016.

In response to unrelenting rampage by al-Shabaab militants, Somali military court stepped up criminal hearings, sentencing terror suspects to death while others were handed life custody and jail terms.
