Ethiopia Warns Against Misinformation on Somaliland MoU
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - The Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia issued a public advisory on Wednesday, warning against the spread of false information online regarding a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Somaliland.
In a statement, the Office emphasized the importance of verifying information before acting on it, as misinformation can spread rapidly and harm the public.
"The Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia advises the public to be cautious of fake content that is currently circulating online pertaining to an MOU with Somaliland," the statement read.
The advisory also stressed that all official communications pertaining to local, regional, and international affairs are exclusively disseminated through its authorized channels.
"We strongly urge everyone to remain vigilant against deceptive content that wrongfully utilizes our official logo," the Office said in the statement.
The MOU between Ethiopia and Somaliland, signed on January 1, 2024, allows Ethiopia to gain access to the seaport. The deal was rejected by the government of Somalia as an aggressive act and a violation of the country's sovereignty.
