Five Kenyan police officers injured in Al-Shabab attack

LAMU - Five police officers were on Saturday morning injured after al-Shabaab militants attacked security convoy escort at Nyangoro area, in Lamu county.

The officers were escorting motorists and passengers plying the Lamu – Garsen road when they were attacked at around 10:30 am.

The militants are said to have burnt into ashes two police motor vehicles belonging to Administration police service and Kenya Police Service.

Confirming the incident, Lamu county police boss said that police managed to repulse the Al-Shabaab militants after engaging them in a gunfight for over 30 minutes.

He said a team of KDF and other security officials have been dispatched for reinforcement and are still combing the area to recover any injured officers and to account all security personnel involved in the two motor vehicles.
