United States Special Representative for Somalia James P. McAnulty congratulates Somalia as it celebrates its 55th Independence Anniversary on July 1.  “On behalf of President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry and the American people, I congratulate the government and people of Somalia on this special day,” said SRS McAnulty.

SRS McAnulty commended Somalia’s government and its people for their courage to reverse two decades of civil conflict and their determination to build a stable and federal democratic state.  He reassured that in that quest, the United States is right where it should be: on Somalia’s side.  “We will continue to support Somalia in its goal to secure its people, enhance governance structures across the country, and provide greater opportunities for economic development,” SRS McAnulty said.

The Government of the United States reaffirms its commitment to work as a close partner for the benefit of Somalia and the region.
