MAP Condemns the Attack on Independent Journalist in Galkacyo

March 5, 2014 (GO)- The Media Association of Puntland (MAP) condemns the attack on the Independent Somali journalist in Galkacyo, Mudug region of Puntland by unknown assailants on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

Unknown Gunmen opened fire at Omar Ahmed Mohamed known as “Omaryare” an independent Somalis Puntland Journalist on his way to home in Galkacyo around 8:00pm local time.

Fortunately Omar stayed unharmed  and survived in this assassination attempt while assailants followed him as he returned from Radio Galkacyo.

Somalis Puntland  Journalists are outrageous about the barbaric attack meant to weaken the ability of the journalists in serving for the public and call for the Somalis Puntland government to carry out prompt investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to Justice.

“We condemn the attack in the strongest terms possible and call for immediate investigation” Said by Mohamed Dahir Yusuf, Deputy Chairman for Media Association of Puntland.

Omar Ahmed Received before a threat calls and Massages from Al-shabaab against his work on Media in Somalia, while four of his close friend journalists and colleagues have been killed in Galkacyo, Central Somalia. 

Somalia is the deadliest country in Africa for media personnel, and Galkacyo ranked as one of the world's most-dangerous places for journalists since 2012.
