Puntland Forces Close in on Major Victory Against ISIS in Final Stages of Military Operation
PUNTLAND, Somalia — Puntland's military forces are on the brink of a significant victory against ISIS militants as their "Cal-Miskaad" operation reaches its final stages.
Having already driven the group from key strongholds, the forces are now on the verge of completely eradicating ISIS’s presence in the Bari region, which has been a security threat for years with the militants establishing bases in the region's rugged terrain.
The operation, which has lasted for weeks with intense fighting, has seen Puntland forces seize control of the mountainous areas and remote regions where ISIS had been entrenched. Photos and footage from the newly captured areas show soldiers operating in the heart of the mountains, demonstrating confidence and determination.
This marks a significant milestone for the Puntland forces, who have received support from local communities, the public, and regional leaders. Military officials say the operation has strengthened Puntland's commitment to regional security and stability.
"The coming days could mark the end of ISIS's presence in Puntland," said one military officer.
Reports also confirmed that dozens of foreign militants were among those killed, indicating that ISIS fighters from countries such as Ethiopia, Tanzania, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria had infiltrated Puntland as part of the terror group’s efforts.
