Somalia: Puntland courts staff go on strike over unpaid salaries

GAROWE, Somalia Dec 20, 2014 (Garowe Online)-The staff at courts in Somalia’s northeastern state of Puntland went on strike over unpaid salaries, asking Puntland leadership to step in, Garowe Online reports.

On Saturday, first degree court of Nugal official who asked to remain anonymous confirmed the ongoing strike to GO.

Staffers including judges and prosecutors of civil courts staged the strike on Wednesday according to judicial sources.

Chief Justice Abdulkadir Sheikh Mohamed Mohamud couldn’t be reached for comments on the matter when contacted

The striking judicial officials wrote to Puntland Vice President Abdihakin Abdulahi Haji Omar Amey but his office has not responded to the complaint as of yet.

On September 27, Puntland State TV staff staged similar mutiny over missing pays, complaining about rife embezzlement.
