GAROWE, Somalia, December 26, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Former Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has billed massive renovation of Garowe airport as milestone in the country’s aviation sector on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Farole indicated while speaking at foundation ceremony for the airport that the construction plan was part of gigantic economic infrastructure scheme that even included present Garowe-Bossaso paved highway in 1980s.

However, Garowe and Bossaso airport projects vanished with the downfall of Siyad Barre regime.

He added that they travelled to many Arab nations to secure funds for the abandoned airports and eventually got Kuwaiti loan in 2010.

Farole unveiled that officials with Mogadishu-based Federal Government tried to doom funding to blockade.

“After many attempts at hurdle, we exulted in its achievement,” said former Puntland President.

Continuing, he thanked politicians and Kuwaiti government over Garowe airport improvement project.

Farole was nicknamed ‘Mr. Airport’ by International donors for his extensive efforts in injecting impetus into the state’s infrastructure industry.
