Somalia: Puntland seeks boost for agriculture

GAROWE, Somalia-Puntland Parliament Speaker Ahmed Ali Hashi has pledged more support for Ministry of Agriculture at height of drought ravaging vast vicinities in the State on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports. 

Speaking at an event marking Agriculture Day celebrated April 12 every year in the northeastern region, Hashi called for strong budget for the ministry as part of plans to improve agricultural production. 

Puntland Parliament Speaker greenlighted special budgetary deliberation in the House, noting that Agriculture Ministry is praised for major activities in battling food insecurity and enhancing crop production. 

“I today pledge, with some MPs in attendance that we will exert maximum effort to give [agriculture ministry] impressive budget increase,” he unveiled. 

He asked the people to come up with commitment towards boosting agriculture. Puntland Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar stressed similar support for the sector that is a major economic source throughout the country.
