Somalia: Puntland women call for peace between warring clans

GAROWE, Somalia-Women in Puntland on Tuesday issued a strong appeal to warring clans in northern Sool region to cease deadly hostility, Garowe Online reports. 

Scores have been killed in weeks-long clashes between two fraternal clans in the village of Dharkayn-Genyo.  

Puntland Women Association (PWA) Chairperson Khadro Jama Warsame urged the government, women and scholars to mediate in the armed tensions, and hold irresponsible people to account.  

She appealed to both sides to embrace dialogue and stop the bloodshed immediately. 

“We are ready to do our part and play a role in the cessation of clan hostilities during the holy month of Ramadan,” unveiled Warsame.  

Puntland government has been chastised for failing to step in for a solution to the clan clashes in Sool region.
