Somalia: Severe water shortage reported in Nugal

GAROWE, Somalia-Hundreds of pastoral families in northeastern Nugal region are facing severe water shortage as drought reigns through the East African country, Garowe Online reports.

Faratol Deeble who travelled across many parts in Nugal region told Puntland-based independent station, Radio Garowe that drought left nomadic households thirsty for water on Tuesday.

He warned of potential humanitarian challenges brewing in the region if it does not rain very soon.

In Hayaanle vicinity, he said that he personally witnessed people scrambling on turbulent meager water in dwindling stream.

He prayed to Allah for rains for pastoralists affected by the drought, and called on government and people to step in.

The humanitarian outcry follows a meeting held in Garowe in which vast swathes including Garowe, Dangorayo, Burtinle and Godobjiran were declared drought-hit.
