Somalia: Allied forces liberate village in renewed offensive

MARKA, Somalia, June 2, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Somali government forces aided by African union peacekeepers have taken control of Tooro-Toorow village in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia in renewed military offensive after a year-long stalled operations, Garowe Online reports.

Backed by battle tanks, the allied forces advanced on the second largest Al Shabaab springboard in the region in the early hours of Monday morning according to security officials and residents.

Militants are said to have fled in advance of the anticipated onslaught in the latest of a series of unprecedented pullouts.

Commanders in charge of the offensive insist that they will move into the only bastion remaining under the control of Al Shabaab militants in Lower Shabelle, riverside village of Sablaale.

Anti-militant push had since been in a pause for unknown reasons, with Awdhegle and Mubarak being briefly seized in Al Shabaab night raid a week ago.
