Mogadishu, Somalia - Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the former President of Somalia, has leveled serious accusations against the Federal Government of Somalia, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, charging it with engaging in clan-based politics.

In a press conference in Mogadishu, Sheikh Sharif claimed that the current administration is significantly entangled in clanism, which he described as a grave misfortune. “Our opposition to the previous regime was not a matter of clan but a political stance. However, we now observe the current government indulging in clanism inappropriately,” stated Sheikh Sharif.

The ex-president emphasized the perils of clanism, urging the nation’s leaders to demonstrate respect for themselves and the people. “Clan politics and the defamation of political figures undermine our country’s unity and progress,” he noted.

Furthermore, Sheikh Sharif criticized the government for adopting tactics they had previously denounced, such as the alleged use of funds to disparage political adversaries on social media platforms. “We had criticized the expenditure of funds for the defamation of opponents on social media. It’s disheartening to see the current government engaging in such practices,” he remarked.

Sheikh Sharif’s comments highlight ongoing concerns about political and social cohesion in Somalia, reflecting the complex interplay of clan identity and governance in the country’s political landscape.
