Hormuud Salaam Foundation Provides Financial Assistance to Maama Ugaaso Foundation and SWDC
MOGADISHU, Somalia - Hormuud Salaam Foundation has extended financial assistance to two community organizations serving vulnerable populations in the Banadir region as part of its ongoing Ramadan outreach efforts.
The foundation donated $10,000 to Maamo Ugaaso Foundation, a center dedicated to caring for orphaned girls and street children. The contribution aims to strengthen the center’s essential services and ensure that children under its care receive the support, compassion, and stability they need during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Deputy Chairman Abdirahman Ibrahim Ilmi (Kobac) said the donation reflects the foundation’s commitment to protecting and uplifting vulnerable Somali children.
“The funds we delivered to Maamo Ugaaso are intended to support the critical work the center is doing for Somali children. We deeply appreciate those who have devoted themselves to caring for orphans and neglected children,” he said.
The Director of Maamo Ugaaso Foundation expressed sincere gratitude for the continued partnership, describing the contribution as both timely and impactful for the children under her care.
In a separate initiative, the foundation provided financial assistance to 120 vulnerable individuals through the Somali Women Development Center (SWDC). Beneficiaries included disadvantaged mothers, elderly individuals, and people with special needs who are unable to work.
Executive Director Sahra Mohamed Ahmed, alongside representatives from the African Women Leadership Network, welcomed the support, emphasizing its significance during a challenging economic period.
Deputy Chairperson Raho Hussein Hirsi reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to assisting vulnerable communities, particularly amid ongoing drought conditions and the spiritual significance of Ramadan.
“As the country continues to face hardship, including the impacts of drought, we remain committed to standing with those in need. Our focus is on helping families secure iftar meals and access essential services during this sacred month,” she said.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the timely assistance, noting that the support arrived at a crucial moment as they observed Ramadan.
These efforts are part of Hormuud Salaam Foundation's annual Iftar Program, now in its 14th year, which delivers food and financial assistance to over 67,000 vulnerable people each Ramadan. The program provides support to patients, prisoners, people with disabilities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and others in need, reaffirming the foundation's commitment to caring for the most vulnerable during this blessed month.
