Hormuud Telecom and Salaam Somali Bank donate $200,000 to people evicted from Las Anod

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Hormuud Telecom and its subsidiary bank - Salaam Somali Bank announced a $200,000 donation to the people who were recently evicted from Las Anod town in the Sool region. The donation will be channeled through the charity foundation - Hormuud Salaam Foundation, which will ensure that the aid reaches the displaced families immediately.

The announcement was made at a presser held in Mogadishu attended by senior Hormuud officials, including the telco's CEO, Ahmed Mohamed Yusuf, representatives from Hormuud Salaam Somali Bank, and officials from the Hormuud Salaam Foundation.

According to the Hormuud Salaam Foundation, Abdullahi Osman, the joint donation by Hormuud Telecom and Salaam Somali Bank is aimed at alleviating the predicaments of the hundreds of families expelled from Las Anod city, Sool region.

"The displaced families suffered enormously owing to the evictions. Hormuud Salaam Foundation, Telecom's humanitarian and social services wing, has been tasked with donating the fund to needy families, and we will ensure to implement the drive as per the recommendations of Hormuud Telecom's senior leadership. The initial financial aid is the US $200,000, and we will distribute it as per the plan,” said Osman.

He hoped that the donation would help alleviate some of the misery of the recipients, and extended sympathies to the affected families over the suffering and pain they had gone through.

Osman further added that Hormuud Telecom is always committed to extending a helping hand to the Somali people during tough times to help ease difficulties, promising that they continue with such generous exercises in line with the guidance of the senior Hormuud leadership.

Also, Hormuud Telecom's CEO Ahmed Mohamud Yusuf delivered a brief speech at the event, noting that the telecom has resolved to donate an urgent the US $200,000 grant to the affected families, which will be channeled through the Hormuud Salaam Foundation.

"We handed over the fund to Hormuud Salaam Foundation which will ably manage it. We will always remain supportive to the needy members of society," he concluded.

Somalis on social media applauded Hormuud for the timely donation, hailing the corporate as a first responder in the wake of a humanitarian crisis, urging the company to sustain such philanthropic efforts and social responsibility.

Hormuud Salaam Foundation, the charity foundation of the telecom, has ramped up its diverse beneficent services to the Somali public as part of the overall Hormuud's goal to contribute to the society's fitting causes.
