Ruto awards Kenyans attending Jamhuri Celebrations with tech scholarship worth $10,000

NAIROBI, Kenya - Kenya President William Ruto while presiding over the 59th Jamhuri at the Nyayo National-Nairobi awarded over 20,000 scholarships to Kenyans attending the celebrations to mark over five decades since the country became a republic in 1964.

The Scholarships are courtesy of Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University.

Kenyans attending the celebrations accessed the scholarship at the stadium via a QR code within the venue.

President William Ruto, “It is now time to keep that promise. There is a QR code near you. Scan and access the scholarship now. While addressing the nation announced that everyone present in the stadium would get a scholarship on Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.”

The head of state further revealed that a 16-unit course would have cost $ 10,000.

Earlier on ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary John Tanui had announced Kenyans would get a free scholarship if they attend Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Tanui who is a member of the National Celebrations Committee made the sentiments during the preparations for Monday’s public celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.

The scholarships will be on technology certification courses and will be awarded to eligible adults.

President further stated that the government appreciates firms and organizations that have stepped forward to make Kenya a hotbed of innovation.
“My government will continue to do our part and make such partnerships bigger in the future and you are always welcome to be part of Kenya’s journey to greatness.”

President Ruto noted that Konza Technopolis has started the distribution of 23,000 virtual desktops to Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutes to enable students to access remote job opportunities across Kenya.

“The Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to supporting young people in re-establishing the country as a republic of ideas and home of renovation,” he added.

The President noted that through a dedicated start-up fund, the government will support the most innovative ideas to scale up into viable commercial enterprises.”

At the same time, President William Ruto has signed the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill 2022, into law. The Bill provides the legal framework for the allocation of additional revenue to counties. It was sponsored by Mandera Senator Ali Ibrahim Roba when it came to the floor of the House for a second time.

As per the State House-Tweeter handle, the funds will come from either proceeds of loans or grants from development partners or from the national government revenue share.
