Somali Army Cadets in Qatar Urged to Instill Discipline
DOHA, Qatar - Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has challenged the Somali National Army (SNA) cadets to instill discipline and professionalism in the army once they graduate and get assignments to command various contingents in the country.
The cadets, he said, must instill discipline using their skills from military training schools abroad to foster unity within the army. Fiqi was assessing the level of preparedness of cadets training in Doha, Qatar, ahead of their integration with the army.
Fiqi made the remarks during an official visit to the Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College in Doha, where he met Somali National Army officer cadets currently undergoing military education. He urged them to shape the Somali National Army's future through the application of skills learnt from international partners.
“You must make the most of this education,” Fiqi told the cadets. “Your skills, discipline, and sense of duty will be essential to restoring a professional and unified Somali armed forces capable of protecting our people and securing our country.”
College Commander Brigadier General Ali Mohamed Al-Fadala said the visit reflects Somalia’s broader efforts to modernize its defence institutions and build a new generation of capable, well-trained officers through international partnerships.
Elsewhere, the Puntland’s defense forces conducted the fourth phase of Operation Hillaac, capturing the final remaining hideouts of ISIS in Baalade valley in the Calmiskaad mountains, officials said.
Recent operations in Baalade targeted caves containing bodies and vital wells that the militant group had used as hideouts before being driven out of the area. The forces have made significant gains on the frontlines.
Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni recently announced that 98% of the Cal-miskaad operation has been completed, and that the government will soon launch the next phase, Operation Onkod, in the Cal-madow hills where the ISIS militants are predominant.
