Somalia: AMISOM convoy targeted in landmine blast

JOWHAR, Somalia- Roadside bomb has ripped through a military convoy transporting African Union troops (AMISOM), in Southern Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

The incident occurred at an area located 15 km north of Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle region, according to local resident.

“The convoy carrying African Union troops were targeted in landmine bomb planted on the roadside as they were moving from Jawhar town towards Mahaday district, today morning,” added the resident.  

The explosion destroyed an armored vehicle belonging to the AMISOM troops, and 3 civilians bystanders reportedly killed after AMISOM troops opened fires following the explosion.

No group claimed responsibility of the attack but Al Shabaab militant group carried out similar attacks in Southern Somalia.

AMISOM did not comment on the attack, which was the latest in series of attacks by Al Shabaab on AMISOM and Somali troops in southern Somalia.
