MOGADISHU, Somalia - Skirmishes in Galmadug continued for the better part of Friday with at least six people killed, information minister Ahmed Falagle said, noting that the government will address the situation.

Galmadug has been a hot spot of skirmishes in the country, ranging from Al-Shabaab resurgence, ASWJ militia, and inter-clan fights, which have escalated for the last two years, almost plunging the country into chaos.

“It is unfortunate that there is a resurgence of clan fighting. Six people have been killed and many more injured. Galmudug has stood firm and will hold the perpetrators accountable,” Falagle said.

Fighting broke out between the two sides in Kahandhaale area of the Galgadud region Friday afternoon but the course of the clash was not immediately clear.

According to local sources, ‘several’ people were killed and others injured in the fighting that last into Friday afternoon. Tension still remains high amid fears of fresh fighting.

Galmadug, which is in central Somalia, has been a hotspot of chaos and is home to Ahmed Kaliye alias Qoorqoor, a close ally of outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, who has been accused of sabotage.

Under Farmaajo's administration, the country has been fairly unstable, and there have been deliberate efforts to kick him out of the government in the ongoing elections in the federal republic of Somalia.
