MOGADISHU, Somalia - The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Monday condemned a bomb attack on the Hodan district offices that killed at least six people and injured 16 others in Mogadishu.

The AU mission said increased attacks on government premises are desperate attempts by al-Qaida-allied terrorists to curtail progress of rebuilding national institutions.

“AMISOM condemns the terrorist attack on Hodan district offices which claimed the lives of innocent civilians and destroyed property,” the AU said in a statement.

A suicide car bomb hit a local government office in Somalia’s capital earlier on Monday in the latest attack in the Horn of Africa nation.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the latest suicide bombing.

AMISOM commiserates with the bereaved families and calls for increased and continued vigilance as we work together towards a safer and stable Somalia,” the statement said.
