ABUDWAQ, Somalia, April 5, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister for Defence Gen. Abdulkadir Sheikh Ali (Diini) has met with traditional leaders in Galgadud region town of Abudwaq in step towards greater reconciliation, Garowe Online reports.

Ahead of the formation of Federal State consisting of South Mudug and Galgadud, Gen. Diini discussed mediating between local communities and the role of clan elders in the consolidation of ongoing peace process with traditional leaders.

“Communities in Galgadud are brothers, and people have been living here for many years. You are required to restore the brotherhood and the previous communal cooperation,” Defence Minister said at a gathering in Abudwaq on Sunday.

Gen. Diini pledged more support to the clan elders, noting that the government stands by them in their efforts of bringing lasting peace to the region.

In early March, Somalia Defence Minister and the paramilitary group of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamea clinched a peace deal after deadly battles for regional influence in Guri’el.
